About Me
I am a freelance journalist based in the New Jersey area, who has reported on the intersection of gender, politics and pop culture since 2012. My focus areas these days tend to be on how queerness, politics and sports intersect, especially with the rise of anti-LGBTQ legislation in the United States and how it affects the transgender community. I also have an eye on how the landscape is changing as it begins to embrace its diverse fanbases and how new media opportunities have fundamentally changed how we watch and consume sports.

I began my reporting career at Around the Rings, a trade publication that covered the behind-the-scenes of the Olympic Games. With that job I was able to follow the ins and outs of how the largest sporting operation in the world is produced, and was able to chase stories all over the globe. From 2015 to 2016 I was a foreign correspondent based in Rio de Janeiro covering the final year of preparations for the Rio 2016 Olympics.
Currently I am a freelance reporter always looking for the next great story. If you are an editor, or someone who has a tip that you believe I should be looking into, I can be reached at sydneyerinwrites@gmail.com. If you prefer a more secure connection, I am on Signal at @SydneyBauer.30. Reach out and I will happily pass that information along to you.
